En cette fin d’année, Pascale et moi avons à nouveau fait route jusqu’au PORTUGAL. Objectif, poser des vitraux commandés par le père Sézinando pour le sanctuaire du Cristo Rei à ALMADA. Nous sommes juste en face de LISBONNE, avec une vue imprenable sur le Tage et le pont du 25 Avril qui fait un bruit assourdissant, cela dit en passant ! Comme toujours, il y a eu l’appréhension qui précédait la pose ! Ce travail un peu particulier n’a pas échappé à cette inquiétude de ne pas être « à l’échelle », de ne pas « tenir » la lumière, etc. Or, je crois avoir bien répondu à la commande, car les panneaux s’intègrent bien dans l’architecture et enrichissent par la couleur et le mouvement ces lieux. J’ai opté pour un mouvement en berceau qui prend la forme de deux mains ouverte en élévation, de couleurs franches avec quelques blancs très fulgurant (résurrection), qui encadrent une croix aux teintes plus soutenues. Enfin, et qui me ravi davantage que mon propre point de vue, ils ont été appréciés ! Je considère que c’est l’essentiel de mon travail que de répondre à une double attente: celle imposée par les lieux (architecture, lumière, destination) et celle des personnes qui vont vivre avec. Les photos montrent le contexte exceptionnel du site. Les vitraux sont situés dans un espace de passage plutôt vaste dans un grand bâtiment où vivent les membres d’une petite communauté de sœurs et où travail le personnel administratif du sanctuaire. The end of the year, Pascale and I drive again to PORTUGAL. Objective, install stained glass windows commissioned by Father Sézinando for the sanctuary of Cristo Rei in ALMADA. We are right in front of LISBON, with a stunning view of the Tagus and the bridge of 25 April that makes a deafening noise, by the way!
As always, there was the apprehension before the pose! This somewhat peculiar work did not escape this worry of not being « on the scale », not « holding » the light, etc. Now, I think I have answered the command well, because the panels fit well into the architecture and enrich these places by color and movement. I opted for a cradle movement that takes the form of two hands open in elevation, of frank colors with some very dazzling whites (resurrection), which frame a cross with more sustained shades.
Finally, and which delighted me more than my own point of view, they were appreciated!
I consider that it is the essence of my work to respond to a double expectation: the one imposed by the places (architecture, light, destination) and the one the people will live with it.
The photos show the exceptional context of the site. The stained glass windows are located in a rather large passageway space in a large building where members of a small community of sisters live and where the administrative staff of the sanctuary work. The project template is also included.
